I left my heart in Brazil

You can’t know that you have been through a life-changing experience that comes once in a lifetime or experienced the real turning point in your life until you start feeling the need to share your story and be part of changing other people’s lives.

In fact, there happens to be one amazing girl that actually had this type of experience. Her name is Flavia Sofia Martins Garcia, She is from the island of Santiago, Cabo Verde and she is a student of political philosophy and International Relations.

Flavia is genuinely glad because through participating in an AIESEC Opportunity ‘Gira Mundo’, in which she worked on SDG number 4, which is Quality Education, she got to deliver her message and impact children and adolescents in Brazil.

She also got the chance to meet people from different countries Italy, Mexico, Costa Rica, Peru, Poland, Ecuador, Chile, China, Bolivia, and Brazil; and she gained an exciting network of people that is now like an exciting family with several nationalities.

Flavia simply realized that she now has a place called home all over the world and she has become a truly Global Citizen.

The entire experience brought a change in Flavia and she returned to Cabo Verde as a new person with a new mindset and most importantly a stronger personality. Flavia has learned to be more responsible, and more attentive to the opinions of others, she has also become more accepting of the differences of others.

Facing challenges was what made this experience unique, For example, she had to deal with the children who were ‘rebels’ in their own way and didn’t want to listen to anyone. She had to develop leadership skills and find a way to reach them as part of her experience.

‘This experience was a passport for my future’-she said, through her experience, she has been able to understand the values, and the reasons we do what we do; peace and fulfillment of humankind’s potential.

She is now working in her Local Committee, converting others to join AIESEC, facing her challenges much easily, organizing events for AIESEC, speaking about her experience and even helping AIESEC in Cabo Verde grow in terms of expansion. She would also like to work at being a Local Committee President and she is planning on volunteering abroad again with AIESEC.
